Ibanez AC30 Fret Level / Setup
Hey hey! Here’s the rest on the Ibanez AC30 acoustic. Pics and a video of me playing (sorry, am lefty) at the bottom!
I adjusted the neck straight and taped off the fingerboard. Then I marked off the frets with a sharpie and sanded them with my leveling beam. I made sure the neck was supported with some books as well as my neck rest (WIP).
I checked the frets again with a fret rocker to make sure everything was level and addressed any issues. And made a slight fall away in the last few frets. Then I put more sharpie and I crowned them with my three corner file. Then finished rounding everything out with finer sandpaper and micromesh pads.
The fingerboard was really nasty so I cleaned that up. It also had some cracks or very open pores near the nut that I cleaned up and filled in with some rosewood dust before oiling the fingerboard.
I put the new strings and set the relief and took some measurements again. The bridge saddle was looking kinda sad beforehand but needed to be shaped anyway. So I did that and filed the nut slots. I keep forgetting to take pictures…
In the end I was able to get the relief to .008”. The action was 4/64” on the treble side and 6/64” on the bass side. Nut action is between .020” and .022”.
Happy out!
